Influenza vaccination

Compared to previous years the uptake of influenza vaccination amongst our patients is significantly higher. Nearly 80 % of all 65 year and older patient have received their vaccination.  The vaccination is for  :

All patients over 65 …

All children between 2 – 5 …

All patients with a chronic disease…

If you are pregnant

If you wish to have your vaccination contact our receptionists. Daily appointments are available.

Childhood immunisation We noticed that parents for some reason do not bring their children for the pre-school immunisation. That is despite the fact that reminders and appointments are sent out by the health board for our baby clinics. It really could not be easier to receive these important immunisations and protect your children from nasty and dangerous infectious disease. So please bring your children when you receive the appointment. Otherwise contact us and we can help you in finding a more suitable appointment time.

Blood Pressure : If you are 45 year and older and did not have a blood pressure check for the last 5 years please see our nurses / health care assistants to have your blood pressure checked.

Smoking Cessation: If you would like some help to stop smoking please phone this number (tel 501226) to get advice on classes and venues.

Practice Pharmacists Our community pharmacists check the prescribing of medications every so often to implement changes as per new developed guidelines and protocols. These are Scotland and UK wide recommendations. You may receive a letter about a new medication or change dose depending on required changes. If you have any questions regarding this please contact our doctors or nurses.

Bowel Screening Program This is a screening test to detect bowel cancer at an early stage and is now in its 3rd year for patients between the ages of 50 – 74. Please return the sample you receive by mail. If you forgot to send it and need a new kit, phone  0800 0121 8333. If you want to ask or discuss anything about this test please call and mention this letter.

Prescription requests Please phone between 9 am – 5 pm if you request a prescription and remember to allow 48 hours before you collect your prescription.  New medication from hospital visits can only prescribed once we have written confirmation from the hospital clinic.

Missed Appointments Please remember it is very important to let us know if you can not come to your appointment. We always have patients waiting for appointments who could be seen by doctors and/or nurses instead.

In December 77 patients did not turn up for their pre-booked appointments and 19 patients did not attend their appointment booked on the same day!

These patients did not cancel their appointments and it means 96 of our patients missed appointments in only one month.

Please help us and give us your correct current contact details to keep us up-dated at all times.

Remember, you can read this information regularly up-dated on our practice website (  If you do not have internet access please ask our receptionists for a print out of the up-dated newsletter which will be published on a regular basis.
